We have a 12-month fixed term opportunity for an Informatician to join our Health Surveillance Applications team who touches the hottest topics in public health surveillance today, including supporting national notifiable disease management systems, PHFS Clinical Data Repositories and other integrated data management activities to support public health response.

In this role, you’ll provide technical support to maintain and develop nationally significant surveillance systems as well as linked applications, reports and data pipelines. You’ll also oversee the day-to-day administration of critical Health Surveillance Applications and integrations. You’ll get involved in identifying and helping to resolve issues that may affect the successful delivery of applications, reports and services, which support enhanced public health surveillance.

The position will be available to start early July. Preference is for the role to be based in either Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch. However remote working may be considered.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have a mix of the following:

A relevant IT qualification or equivalent public health experience.

Strong SQL experience and capability essential

Experience in SSIS, SSRS; and/or PowerBI.

Experience in data extraction, transformation using R/Python/SQL

Experience working with/supporting analytics products for population health strongly preferred

Proven industry experience of developing/supporting effective web-based and database centric systems

Knowledge of web technologies such as JSON, XML, HTML, HTTP, CSS, and JavaScript

Good understanding of API integration and HL7 messages

Clear communication skills, and able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people

Ability to work independently and excellent problem-solving skills

Experience in informatics for disease reporting and/or management

Attention to detail essential

A willingness to work as a member of a team, supportive of other team members and focused on achieving team objectives

Ability to communicate positively and effectively, including the quality of presentation of ideas, thoughts, and arguments.
