The role involves building and evolving systems that power how Dropbox monetizes its products, driving technical strategy, and ensuring the reliability of revenue-critical systems.ResponsibilitiesDesign and evolve scalable backend systems that power Dropbox’s Commerce Platform, including CRM, CPQ, Billing, provisioning, and related data workflowsDefine and drive technical strategy for complex, highly customized systems, balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform scalability and reliabilityLead efforts to simplify legacy architectures, reduce system fragmentation, and build generalized, product-agnostic solutionsOwn end-to-end reliability of revenue-critical systems, including validation, rollout safety, monitoring, and incident responsePartner cross-functionally with Engineering, Sales, Finance, and GTM teams to translate business requirements into durable technical solutionsIdentify and execute on opportunities to improve data integrity, system observability, and operational efficiency across the platformTake ownership of large, ambiguous problem spaces and drive them from definition through execution, influencing both technical and business stakeholdersSkillsBS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field involving programming (e.g., Computer Engineering), or equivalent practical experience12+ years of professional software development experienceProven expertise in building and maintaining large-scale, distributed backend systemsStrong system design skills, particularly in complex, stateful, or workflow-driven systemsExperience building reliable systems with a focus on validation, rollout safety, monitoring, and maintainabilityExperience working on systems in a monetary domain such as ecommerce, subscriptions, billing, payments, or financial systemsStrong communication and collaboration skills, with experience influencing cross-functional stakeholdersExperience with CRM, CPQ, Billing, ecommerce, or similar enterprise workflow platforms (e.g., Salesforce)Track record of simplifying or modernizing legacy systems into scalable, maintainable architecturesExperience working on revenue-critical or monetization platforms at scaleExperience improving data consistency and integrity across distributed systemsDemonstrated ability to influence technical direction across teams without direct authorityCompany OverviewDropbox is a smart workspace company that provides secure file sharing, collaboration, and storage solutions.
