In this role, you will contribute to decarbonization consulting projects, utilizing advanced analytics and building energy modeling to support energy efficiency and renewable integration.ResponsibilitiesBe a trusted advisor to our clients by providing pragmatic advice based on defensible data and analysisManage and contribute to multiple projects including technical research and analysis, client engagement, subcontractor management, and external stakeholder engagement including:Scoping and launching new projectsEngaging in primary and secondary researchProcuring test equipment and arranging laboratory testsSupporting laboratory and field investigationsFostering coalition-buildingSupporting legal, regulatory, and policy reviewsConduct building energy modeling to determine energy savings or operating characteristics of buildings, technologies, or competing technologiesPlan, scope, and oversee lab and field studies related to technologies or practicesPlan and conduct analysis of research results from laboratory tests, field studies, and/or building energy modelingDevelop and maintain budget forecasts and project schedules across multiple projectsCoordinate research with state programs and independent entitiesEnsure high-quality deliverables, including spreadsheets with supporting calculations, memos, reports, and presentationsContribute to business development and proposal writingLeverage AI tools to accelerate analysis, synthesize complex information, and support data-driven recommendations for clients, exercising judgment in evaluating outputsApply AI technologies (e.g., generative AI, automation tools, data models) to enhance insights, improve delivery efficiency, and elevate the quality of client outcomesSkillsBachelor's degree in engineering or technical field(s) is required; bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred6+ years of relevant work experience, preferably including consulting and utility energy efficiency program exposureDemonstrated experience with: Energy modeling (EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, ModelKit, IESVE, TraneTrace, etc.) and engineering simulationsPython, R, or similar programming languages for data analysisComfort contributing to complex projects with a problem-solving orientation that prioritizes client needsStrong attention to detail, including maintaining consistency and rigor across multi-section documents with multiple contributorsProven project management experience with a successful track recordStrong initiative, creativity, and curiosity; ability to work independently and collaborativelyExcellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to adapt technical material for broader audiencesConfidence, enthusiasm, humility, and the highest ethical standardsDesire to work in a remote environment with colleagues throughout the U.S. with primary alignment with West Coast hours. Flexibility to travel for in-person meetings, as neededExperience integrating AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) into day-to-day workflows to enhance productivity and insight generation, coupled with strong critical thinking to assess accuracy, mitigate bias, and ensure high-quality outputsExperience with one or more of the following: Engineering support for energy efficiency programs such as technical reference manual (TRM) development or measurement and verificationCalifornia and national appliance standards and building energy codes, including California Title 20 appliance standards, California Title 24 building energy codes, ASHRAE 90.1, and IECCAdvanced data analytics including the application of machine learning or artificial intelligence to physics-based models related to energy efficiency, demand flexibility, or electrificationUtilities on demand side management (DSM) and/or advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) data analysisCompany OverviewWest Monroe offers digital transformation, analytics, cloud, cyber security, business advisory, and management consulting services.
