[Remote] Contracted Business Development Lead
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. SustainEnergyFinance (SEF) is Utah’s first green bank focused on mobilizing capital for clean energy initiatives. They are seeking a Business Development Lead to drive developer outreach, build pipelines for commercial and consumer lending, and manage program strategy, reporting directly to the CEO.ResponsibilitiesDeveloper outreach & pipeline development: Proactively engage developers, owners, and project sponsors to build a qualified commercial project pipeline that conforms to SEF’s lending criteriaImplement pipeline strategy: Implement SEF’s 18-month pipeline strategy organized around SEF’s core products (including C-PACE, SELF, CFB and other SEF loan products). May also include refinement of pipeline strategyC-PACE pipeline development: Target and cultivate CPACE-ready projects and partners for referral and direct lending opportunitiesProgram ownership: Serve as primary program strategist for SEF’s Homes program and referral partners — refine go-to-market approach, onboarding, partner-facing materials, stakeholder coordination, and reporting. Program responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:Work across the SEF team to identify risks and opportunities across multiple programs and projectsAnalyze, evaluate, and propose solutions to overcome program risks and obstaclesDevelop and monitor the budget for pilots and future projects and programsContractor network: Manage and grow SEF’s vetted contractor/partner network (e.g., HVAC, solar, roofing and other residential energy contractors, energy auditors/modelers, developers, technical assistance providers) to support project origination and implementation for SEF’s consumer and commercial programsMaterials development: Create and update sales and outreach collateral, pitch decks, one-pagers, and technical summaries for developers, partners, and fundersResource planning / resourcing support: Coordinate scheduling and resource allocation to support origination workflows and partner engagementsLeverage and refine SEF’s tools and technology suite for commercial and consumer programs workflow and processesCommunity engagement & outreach: Plan and execute targeted outreach and engagement with community stakeholders and local partners to support deal flow and equitable accessReporting & tracking: Maintain Copper CRM and pipeline tracking; provide regular status updates to the CEO and senior teamSkills5–7 years professional experience in green banking, commercial lending, energy finance, or related business development rolesAble to travel regularly within the state of UtahDemonstrated experience with commercial financing, single-family consumer finance, or similar programsProven track record in commercial finance originationStrong written and verbal communication; experience producing grant reports and program materialsDemonstrated proficiency with a wide range of business systems and technologies, including Microsoft platforms, CRM and pipeline management proficiency; comfortable with outreach tools and project tracking workflowsSelf-starter with excellent stakeholder management and ability to work independentlyFosters teamwork and collaboration across the SEF organizationAdept at transitioning between big picture strategy and programmatic details, as well as adapting to the ever-changing clean energy landscapeAble to quickly identify and solve issues related to program and project managementPrior experience building and/or managing contractor or vendor networks for energy projectsPrior experience with C-PACE financing is a plusFamiliarity with public/private funder reporting requirements and grant report templatesExercises prudence and insight in decision-making while being mindful of the SEF mission, partners, and long-term implicationsDemonstrated excellence in independent project and time managementCompany OverviewUtah is poised to lead on affordable, resilient housing and smart energy solutions–and drive job growth while doing it.
