WATN/WLMT represents a dynamic local television station located in Memphis, TN, committed to delivering trusted news and compelling local sports coverage. Our station is home to the market's most innovative streaming platform and original programming, including our signature sports franchise, 24th Floor Sports. We are looking for a dynamic and driven Sports Anchor/Producer to lead all sports coverage across platforms. This is a solo department role for a multi-skilled journalist who thrives in an independent, creative environment and knows how to connect with a passionate sports audience both on-air and online. As the sole member of the sports team, you'll anchor sports in our 6:00pm evening newscast, report and shoot local sports stories, manage sports content on our digital platforms, and produce our original sports streaming show, 24th Floor Sports. You'll have creative control, a strong platform, and the opportunity to build something with your unique voice and vision. Responsibilities: • Anchor daily and weekend sportscasts on our linear television newscasts • Enterprise, shoot, write, and edit compelling local sports content across all platforms • Produce and host our weekly sports streaming show 24th Floor Sports, including guest booking, scripting, segment planning, and creative direction • Regularly contribute to our station's streaming app with live and on-demand sports content • Create engaging digital and social media content to complement and expand TV coverage • Develop strong relationships with local high schools, colleges, and professional teams including the Memphis Grizzlies, University of Memphis Tigers, and Memphis Redbirds • Attend games, press conferences, and community sports events, often on evenings and weekends • Collaborate with the newsroom on sports-related breaking news and crossover features • Maintain editorial integrity and journalistic standards at all times Requirements: • 2+ years of on-air experience in a sports anchor or MMJ role (small to mid-size market preferred) • Strong on-camera presence and excellent live reporting skills • Proficient in shooting, writing, and editing your own stories • Experience in producing and hosting long-form or talk-format content is a plus • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines and responsibilities • Comfortable with digital publishing tools, livestreaming, and social media engagement • Passion for local sports and a deep understanding of Memphis's sports landscape • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, Communications, or a related field What We Offer: • A rare opportunity to own and shape a local sports brand in a top-50 market • Creative freedom to produce and innovate across traditional and digital platforms • A supportive newsroom and collaborative station leadership Benefits: TEGNA offers comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families.
