We take pride in our mission to improve public health and quality of care and to advance research.Primary purpose: Builds and integrates backend services for a a modern healthcare portal hosted on an Azure-native platform. Focuses on developing secure, scalable APIs; implementing business logic; and optimizing data access using Azure services.Responsible for delivering high-performing, resilient services that support user-facing applications and workflows for healthcare data. Collaborates closely with front-end developers, architects, and DevOps teams while operating in a regulated environment (FedRAMP, HIPAA, FISMA).A successful candidate will do the following:Design, develop, and maintain Azure Functions to support business logic and data workflowsBuild and manage APIs with Azure API Management (APIM), including versioning, throttling, and policy enforcementDevelop and optimize Azure SQL stored procedures, queries, and schema design for high performance and scalabilityImplement authentication and authorization using Microsoft Entra ID External (Azure AD B2C) for backend servicesIntegrate backend services with front-end applications and external healthcare-data systemsContribute to unit and integration testing and support automated testing pipelinesEnsure compliance with FedRAMP, HIPAA, and FISMA security and data-handling standardsCollaborate with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, including automated deployments and monitoringDocument APIs, workflows, and backend processes for maintainability and to serve as onboarding materialsTroubleshoot and resolve backend issues with performance, scalability, and reliability
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related fieldMinimum of five years of experience in backend development, with at least three years of building solutions on AzureSolid experience with Azure Functions and APIMProficiency in Azure SQL development (especially stored procedures, indexing, query and optimization)Hands-on experience with authentication and authorization using Entra ID (Azure AD B2C)Familiarity with event-driven and serverless architecturesExperience with CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOpsStrong understanding of secure coding practices, data protection, and compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, HIPAA)Preferred qualifications:Certification as Azure Developer Associate or Azure Solutions Architect ExpertExperience with unit testing, framework mockups, and integration test automationFamiliarity with SonarCloud or similar code-quality toolsExperience in Agile development with Jira for backlog and sprint managementBackground in application development in healthcare or other regulated industriesExperience with React and/or .NET/C# for building modern web applicationsAdditional information:We are a remote organization, but we prioritize in-person collaboration during key events such as our annual company meeting.
