Kleinfelder's Environmental team is looking for an experienced Ecologist/Environmental Scientist to join their growing Tampa, FL office. The role involves assisting with ecological field assessments for projects in the mining, energy, and commercial development industries. Responsibilities
ā¢ Assist with ecological field assessments for projects in the mining, energy, and commercial development industries.
ā¢ Conduct protected species surveys.
ā¢ Perform gopher tortoise relocations.
ā¢ Conduct vegetative monitoring.
ā¢ Perform hydrologic monitoring.
ā¢ Conduct water quality sampling.
ā¢ Support other ecological assessments.
ā¢ Prepare reports.
ā¢ Coordinate with team members and project managers.
ā¢ Periodically interact with clients and regulatory agency staff.
ā¢ Obtain an MSHA New Miner Training certificate.
ā¢ Work effectively in team environments and with limited supervision.
ā¢ Work outside of typical business hours.
ā¢ Be flexible in daily work schedule.
ā¢ Work long hours in adverse environmental conditions and in remote areas.
Requirements
ā¢ A bachelor's degree in the natural resources (i.e. biological, zoology, botany, ecology or environmental science).
ā¢ Minimum of 3 years of applicable job experience.
ā¢ Knowledge of the natural resources of Florida.
ā¢ Strong time management skills.
ā¢ Strong problem-solving skills.
ā¢ Strong communication skills.
ā¢ Strong organizational skills.
ā¢ Relevant computer/software experience.
ā¢ Solid technical writing skills.
ā¢ Solid verbal communication skills.
ā¢ Must be a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Gopher Tortoise Authorized Agent (AA) for surveying and mechanical excavation.
ā¢ Experience conducting threatened and endangered species surveys per FWC and United States Fish and Wildlife Service survey protocols/guidelines.
ā¢ Ability to lead gopher tortoise relocation efforts including mechanical excavation and bucket trapping.
ā¢ Minimum of 3 years of experience as a natural resources professional.
ā¢ Ability to travel, both within Florida and nationwide.
ā¢ A clear driving record.
ā¢ Ability to work effectively in both team environments and with limited supervision.
ā¢ Availability to work outside of typical business hours.
ā¢ Flexibility in daily work schedule.
ā¢ Willingness to work long hours in adverse environmental conditions and in remote areas.
ā¢ Satisfactorily complete employment reference checks, verification of professional licensure and/or educational credentials, a motor vehicle report (MVR), and a comprehensive background check after an offer.

ā¢ Proficiency in use of Avenza, ESRI Field maps, a sub-meter GPS and data processing.
