DB2 Database Administrator Remote / Telecommute Jobs
Summary:
We are seeking seasoned DB2 Database Administrators to drive the migration of DB2 databases from legacy AIX systems to RHEL-based environments hosted in AWS. This role requires deep expertise in DB2 internals, Q Replication, and data validation strategies to ensure high-fidelity migration and continuity of operations. Candidates must be comfortable working across platform and network boundaries, collaborating with application teams, AIX engineers, and AWS cloud architects to deliver scalable, compliant data infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform discovery and analysis of DB2 instances running on AIX systems, including catalog/database configuration, buffer pools, tablespaces, and backup strategies.
• Design and execute data migration plans for transitioning DB2 databases from AIX to RHEL, followed by deployment to AWS (EC2 or RDS, depending on workload requirements).
• Implement and manage Q Replication for delta-based synchronization during cutover planning.
• Conduct rigorous post-migration validation using record counts, checksum comparisons, and application-level testing to ensure data integrity.
• Tune performance parameters and modify configuration for Linux-optimized DB2 deployment (e.g., memory, page size, connection limits).
• Reconfigure user roles, access permissions, and database-level auditing aligned with ATO security controls and NIST 800-53 standards.
• Support developers, testers, and BO/AEM teams with query optimization, schema verification, and report validation against the target data store.
• Document all migration steps, configurations, testing plans, and rollback options.
• Support DB2 integration with WebSphere Application Server (WAS ND)
• Familiarity with JDBC resource configuration and Jython scripting in WAS environments
• Coordination with middleware teams to ensure seamless DB2 access after migration
Required Qualifications:
• 8+ years of experience as a DB2 LUW DBA, including hands-on work with AIX-hosted environments.
• Demonstrated experience with DB2 migration to Linux-based platforms (RHEL preferred).
• Proven track record of migrating enterprise-scale DB2 databases to AWS, including either EC2-hosted or Amazon RDS for Db2.
• Advanced SQL and performance tuning expertise, with the ability to trace query bottlenecks and optimize for new architectures.
• Experience with Q Replication, HADR, or equivalent strategies for live/delta sync during phased cutovers.
• Familiarity with AWS-native networking, storage (EBS/S3), IAM integrations, and backup methods.
