Billing/Follow-up Specialist - Commercial Billing (Remote: OR, WA, AK)

About the position The Billing/Follow-up Specialist - Commercial Billing at PeaceHealth is responsible for managing all phases of billing and account follow-up to ensure thorough and consistent resolution of accounts. This role focuses on promoting financial health through timely follow-up on outstanding charges owed by third-party payors, ensuring appropriate reimbursement, and maintaining compliance with payer contracts and policies. The position requires effective communication with insurance companies, patients, and internal teams to resolve billing issues and improve the overall billing process. Responsibilities • Resolve insurance claim rejections/denials and non-payment of claims by payors. • Identify trends in billing and follow-up to expedite resolution of insurance accounts. • Draft appeals to insurance companies for reimbursement of owed monies. • Maintain daily account follow-up work lists while meeting productivity standards. • Ensure compliance with payer contracts and policies for claims processing. • Identify, research, and resolve credit balances, missing payments, and unposted cash. • Process and maintain correspondence from patients and insurance companies regarding billing and payments. • Submit issues to coding for review to ensure compliance with organizational processes. • Communicate effectively with insurance companies, patients, co-workers, and supervisors. • Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree preferred. • Minimum of 2 years of experience in billing or insurance account follow-up. • Medical terminology experience required. • Knowledge of insurance processes and billing guidelines regulations required. • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Skilled in 10-key by touch and keyboarding. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting. Nice-to-haves • Coding knowledge preferred. • Epic experience preferred. • Medical Billing Certificate preferred. • Certified Revenue Cycle Representative preferred.
