Job Summary

The Actuarial Development Program is a full-time, long-term program designed to develop future leaders in the actuarial field. As a program analyst, you will work on challenging projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, and gain exposure to various aspects of the business. The program is designed to accelerate your overall development, not just your actuarial skills. You will gain a broad understanding of the healthcare industry, develop your analytical and problem-solving skills, and learn to communicate complex ideas effectively.

Key Responsibilities


Analyze and interpret complex data sets to inform business decisions and manage risk
Develop and maintain actuarial models, tools, and processes to support business objectives
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement solutions to business problems
Communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders, including senior leaders and external partners
Participate in various rotations across the actuarial organization to gain exposure to different areas of the business
Develop and maintain technical capabilities, including proficiency in programming languages, such as SAS, Python, and SQL


Rotations and Key Areas of Focus

As an Actuarial Development Program Analyst, you will participate in four rotations, each lasting several months. These rotations will immerse you in key business areas and provide exposure to various aspects of the actuarial organization. The rotations may include:


Risk Evaluation: Understand the nature of specific risks and provide results of analysis to management
Rate Filing: Collect and analyze filing data, prepare and submit required exhibits for regulatory filings
Reserve Analysis: Analyze claim data and monitor reserve levels for suitability, demonstrating an understanding of actuarial reserving methods and issues
Planning and Forecasting: Provide technical support and analysis for planning, pricing, and reporting processes
Valuation, Trend, and Benefit Design: Develop and recommend pricing and trends for products or benefits
Technical Capabilities: Develop innovative technical solutions to complex problems, demonstrating proficiency with calculation sheets and knowledge of database and online applications


Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for the Actuarial Development Program Analyst role, you must:


Have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as actuarial science, mathematics, or statistics
Be willing to relocate to a designated Actuarial center (relocation assistance provided for candidates who need to move more than 50 miles)
Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively
Be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
Demonstrate a positive and supportive attitude, with a focus on teamwork and collaboration


Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:


Internship or work experience supporting actuarial functions of an organization or business unit
Demonstrated leadership experience, such as active roles in student or community organizations, or sports
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with scientific or coding software, such as SAS, Python, Excel, VBA, SQL, or R
Ability to work in a hybrid work environment, with flexibility to work from home or in the office
