911 Dispatcher
Purpose of Position: As the first, first responder, the 911 Dispatcher is the first contact for most citizens in need of help. In Pierce county, 911 Dispatchers answer all 911 calls and interpret & relay information to appropriate responding public safety units or agencies according to established protocols. The 911 Dispatcher provides follow-up communication and assistance as necessary to assist field responders. All 911 Dispatchers must be able to work an assigned 24/7 schedule that will include weekdays, weekends, and holiday shifts of 8, 10 or 12 hours including overnight hours. Minimum Qualifications β’ High School Diploma or Equivalent; and β’ Must pass a pre-employment screening test demonstrating computer proficiency; and β’ Valid Drivers License; and β’ Selected candidates must also pass a required background review for law enforcement employment purposes (no felony convictions); and β’ Final appointment is contingent on passing a physical examination and drug screening. Preferred Qualifications β’ Previous experience in public safety (law enforcement, fire, EMS or military). β’ Previous experience in a fast -paced team environment. β’ General law enforcement or dispatching experience.
