Volunteer Grant Writer (Remote, Flexible Hours)
Location: Remote | Type: Volunteer | Commitment: 5β10 hours/month
Term: 6 months, with the option to extend upon organizational approval
About Us:
Native Americans in Higher Education and Mentorship (NAHEM) is a women-led nonprofit organization that empowers Indigenous communities through education access, mentorship, cultural preservation, and community-based solutions. We are seeking a dedicated Volunteer Grant Writer to help us secure funding that supports our youth programs, language revitalization efforts, and community outreach in California and Washington State.
Role Overview:
As a Volunteer Grant Writer, you will support NAHEMβs development team in identifying funding opportunities and drafting compelling proposals that align with our mission and goals. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to gain nonprofit experience, sharpen their writing skills, or give back to Indigenous communities through capacity-building work.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies
β’ Write clear, persuasive, and tailored grant proposals and letters of inquiry
β’ Collaborate with staff to gather program data, budgets, and narratives
β’ Assist in tracking deadlines and submitting applications on time
β’ Contribute to post-award reporting and funder correspondence when needed
Qualifications:
β’ Excellent written communication and research skills
β’ Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
β’ Familiarity with nonprofit or grant writing (experience is helpful but not required)
β’ Interest in Indigenous education, cultural preservation, or community development
β’ Ability to work independently and collaborate virtually with a small team
