Technologist - Laboratory
Point Of Care Lab Technician
Under supervision of Laboratory Manager, performs waived laboratory tests in a remote or mobile setting. Also responsible for monitoring quality of reagents and working condition of instruments.
Essential Functions:
⢠Receives specimens from phlebotomists and couriers.
⢠May operate a delivery van to bring the mobile lab to an area of high volume of STAT testing when applicable.
⢠Enters patient demographics and test orders into lab information system.
⢠Checks the quality control of each test prior to running and reporting patient results. Ensures QC is within appropriate limits and brings problems to a supervisor/manager in real time.
⢠Performs lab testing in the areas of point of care which may include Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular and Coagulation.
⢠Data entry of test results.
⢠Confirms abnormal results prior to releasing and bring any "rare and improbable" test results to the attention of a supervisor/manager.
⢠Performs blood collection to include venipuncture and capillary specimens.
⢠Processes specimens and logs requisitions as needed.
⢠Close monitoring of STAT board to ensure STAT TAT goal is obtained consistently.
⢠Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and ensures compliance with state requirements for documentation of lot numbers with quality control and specimen records.
⢠Troubleshoots problems (client, instrument, computer) as needed.
⢠Performs maintenance on the automated instrumentation as needed.
⢠Records the quality control and maintains the QC records on all assays performed.
⢠Performs other tasks and procedures that are commensurate with education, training and abilities.
⢠Responsible for all clerical functions associated with specimen integrity, testing, identification and reporting of department testing.
⢠Follows all safety protocols as outlined in safety manual.
