Summer Health Policy, Research, and Advocacy Internship (Unpaid, Globally Remote)

About the roleGlobal Health Action is looking for a Policy, Research, and Advocacy Intern. The Intern will provide programmatic, research, and analytical support to the Health Systems Advisor at Global Health Action. S/he will gain valuable knowledge and experience about the complex system and factors affecting health policy at international and national levels and how to influence them. This internship requires 20hrs/week (mandatory: Thursdays 10am-2pm ET; Five Orientation days 10am-2pm ET). This is a part-time, unpaid internship opportunity. Internship timeframe: A minimum of 12 weeks (May 18 - August 7, 2026) for 20 hrs per week. The position is remote from anywhere in the world, with the option to be hybrid. The intern will have the opportunity to become exposed to pressing ethical issues in global health, become familiar with working with coalitions and collaborative concepts, and work with a supervisor who is interested in mentoring. Click here to listen to what our prior interns have to say.What you'll doConduct health policy research and analysis on topics relevant to global health and development and draft summary/position papers/policy briefsMonitor and track policy developments and team activitiesAnalyze state and federal legislation related to global health, development, health workers, and other health issues of concern to communities in low-resourced settingsAttend meetings and events, take detailed notes, and report backResearch, draft, edit, and format public-facing content and materials, such as talking points, briefs, and reportsOther duties and tasks as assignedLearning Outcomes:Will learn about core elements of the U.S. and Global policymaking process, the roles of various parties and key stakeholders in crafting policy, and GHA’s issue areasWill gain experience conducting research and analysis for policy and advocacy aimsWill learn about administrative and legislative advocacy strategiesWill have the opportunity to observe, interact, and network with INGO partners and coalitionsWill learn about the process of coordinating advocacy across an international NGOQualifications,Graduate student preferredExcellent written, oral, multitasking and interpersonal communications skills (writing sample required)Knowledge of, or interest in, global health or foreign policyKnowledge of internet research sources, including media search enginesFamiliarity with the federal legislative processProficient in Microsoft Word (including creating graphs, charts, and tables), Excel, and PowerPointAbility to multitask, and prioritize various tasks in a fast-paced work environmentFacility with social media.Ability to work productively in a team environment as well as under minimal supervision, taking the initiative to ask questions as neededAcademic and/or legal research and analysis skills are a plusGraphic design skills and experience creating visual materials are a plusPlease be prepared to upload a cover letter, resume, and writing sample when applying.
