Software Engineer - Electrical Power Systems

This role involves blending power systems engineering with software development to create innovative solutions for managing Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and enhancing grid reliability.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain mission‑critical grid and DER‑related applications using C++Collaborate with software developers, architects, and power systems experts to design and implement best‑in‑class DERMS capabilitiesDesign and implement reliable, performant, and fault‑tolerant code grounded in real‑world power systems requirements and user storiesEnsure software quality and reliability through unit testingParticipate in code reviews and design reviewsEngage in agile ceremonies (daily stand‑ups, story refinement, sprint planning, retrospectives)Investigate, diagnose, and resolve software issues in both algorithmic logic and power‑system‑related functionalityCommunicate technical concepts clearly to both power systems specialists and non‑technical audiencesSkillsBachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Software Engineering or related technical fieldFormal power systems and power electronics education with proven professional experience and technical expertise in the field of power system engineeringKnowledge of modern grid technologies - Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), Distribution Systems (DMS), Grid Energy Storage (BES), Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO), Virtual Power Plant (VPP)Familiarity with mixed integer programming and convex optimizationFamiliarity with industrial solvers like Gurobi, CLP, and/or CBCStrong knowledge of optimization techniques, including mixed‑integer programmingExperience in identifying, communicating, and resolving problems in a collaborative, professional mannerA strong desire to help facilitate the decarbonization and renewable expansion across the globeElectrical engineering background in utility industryBenefitsPaid time offCharitable giveback dayMedical/dental/vision insuranceRetirement benefitsCompany OverviewAspen Technology is a global leader in industrial software.
