Senior Urban Planner

Our client, a forward-thinking urban development consultancy, is seeking a dedicated Senior Urban Planner to contribute to transformative projects in Sacramento, California, US . This role is integral to shaping the future of urban environments through strategic planning, policy development, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will have a profound understanding of land use planning, zoning regulations, transportation planning, and sustainable development principles. You will lead planning initiatives, conduct complex analyses, prepare comprehensive plans and reports, and collaborate effectively with government agencies, stakeholders, and the public. We are looking for a proactive individual passionate about creating vibrant, sustainable, and equitable communities. Key responsibilities include conducting research on demographic trends, land use patterns, and environmental impacts; developing zoning ordinances and comprehensive plans; managing development review processes; and facilitating public participation in planning initiatives. You will prepare presentations, staff reports, and technical documents for planning commissions and city councils. Proficiency in GIS software, urban planning modeling tools, and strong analytical and writing skills are essential. A Master's degree in Urban Planning, City Planning, or a related field is required, along with significant professional experience and ideally, AICP certification. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining the benefits of collaborative in-office work in Sacramento, California, US , with the flexibility of remote work. Key Responsibilities: Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive plans and specific area plans. Conduct research and analysis on land use, demographics, transportation, and environmental issues. Draft and revise zoning codes, development regulations, and urban design guidelines. Manage the development review and entitlement process for complex projects. Facilitate public outreach and community engagement activities. Prepare staff reports, presentations, and technical documents for public hearings. Collaborate with interdepartmental teams and external agencies. Apply GIS and other planning software for spatial analysis and visualization. Stay current with planning best practices, emerging trends, and relevant legislation. Qualifications: Master's degree in Urban Planning, City Planning, or a related field. 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning. AICP certification is strongly preferred. Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) and urban planning tools. Strong understanding of land use law, zoning, and environmental review processes (CEQA). Excellent analytical, research, writing, and presentation skills. Proven ability to manage projects and engage diverse stakeholders.
