Senior Collections Representative - Non-Government Unit / Transplant

About the position

Responsibilities
• Gather and secure all information needed for billing and collections.
• Maintain deficiency lists to obtain missing documents from internal or external entities.
• Resolve claim rejections and package claims, including global billing with attachments of professional fee claims.
• Perform proactive follow-up with payers, grants, and other entities to secure payment of accounts.
• Accountable for billing through account closure.
• Utilize multiple databases and applications to analyze and take appropriate action on received information or documents.
• Communicate frequently with insurance company representatives, hospital and clinical departments, managers, and patients.

Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Six or more years of experience working in a hospital billing office environment.
• Excellent knowledge of hospital billing and collections, including packaged claims, stop losses, per diems, carve outs, and other contract terms and conditions.
• Strong understanding of CPT, ICD, DRG, and HCPC codes.
• Understanding of Professional Fees.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficient in computer operation, including MS Office and basic office equipment.
• Proactive and assertive account resolution skills.
• Motivated individual with a positive work ethic.
• Ability to follow directions and written procedures with high attention to detail.
• Ability to balance assertiveness with compassion for patients and others.
• Ability to work onsite in the Emeryville office with occasional remote work.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience with medical terminology.
• ICD, CPT4, HCPCS, DRG coding experience.
• Understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.
