Residency Advisor
Job Summary
Each year, MedSchoolCoach supports thousands of pre-medical and medical students as they pursue admission to medical school and residency programs. As a Physician Advisor, you will serve as the primary academic and admissions advisor for a cohort of students, guiding them through every stage of the application process.
In this role, you are responsible for delivering high-quality advising, overseeing the development of application materials, and ensuring students submit polished, competitive applications. You will collaborate closely with writing advisors and other team members while maintaining ownership over your students’ overall strategy and progress.
This position is ideal for physicians who are passionate about mentorship, high-stakes admissions, and helping students reach their full potential.
Responsibilities
Collaborate directly with medical students applying to residency programsCollaborate directly with pre-medical applicants who are applying to medical school (if applicable) Conduct one-on-one advising sessions focused on:Specialty selection and competitiveness assessmentERAS application strategyPersonal statement developmentCV and experiences refinementLetters of recommendation guidanceProgram selection and list strategyRanking strategy and Match preparationPartner with writing advisors to support brainstorming and editing of personal statements and supplemental essaysFacilitate mock residency interviews and provide detailed, constructive feedbackAdvise students on red flags, remediation strategies, and strengthening their applicationProvide guidance for SOAP (Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program), if applicableParticipate in webinars, blog contributions, or other educational outreach (optional)
Qualifications
Attended a U.S. Medical SchoolMD or DO PhysicianSuccessfully matched into residencyDeep familiarity with the residency application process, including ERAS and the NRMP MatchPrior experience mentoring medical students or residentsStrong written and verbal communication skillsProficiency with Microsoft Word, Zoom, Gmail, Google Meet, and other communication tools
Preferred Clinical Backgrounds (Not Required)
