About the position

The Research Assistant I position at the University of Michigan-Flint is a temporary, part-time role designed for undergraduate students or recent graduates. The primary focus of this position is to assist in the installation and maintenance of instrument components, specifically related to the analysis of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in various samples such as water, soil, and animal tissues. The role requires a hands-on approach to support instrument repairs and updates, as well as the preparation and running of standards through method development and data analysis. This position is expected to contribute to the development and validation of sample preparation methods, ensuring that new analytical techniques are effective and reliable. The successful candidate will work approximately five hours per week during the Fall 2024 term, primarily on-site at the Flint campus. The work environment is defined as fully onsite, meaning that the employee will be required to be present at a designated University of Michigan-owned or leased location. Responsibilities

Requirements
• Must be a current University of Michigan-Flint undergraduate student in good academic standing or recently graduated from a UM-Flint undergraduate program and not currently enrolled in a graduate program.

• Must have completed CHM 366/367 Analytical Chemistry with lab.

Nice-to-haves
• Good working knowledge of GC-MS instrumentation.
