About the position

We are currently seeking a passionate individual to join our team as a Research Assistant I in the Vascular Biology department. This role is integral to our research efforts aimed at understanding platelet biology and its implications in various disease processes, including cancer, obesity, and aging. The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the investigator and will be involved in a variety of scientific studies that explore how platelets are produced and their role in disease mechanisms. The Research Assistant will engage in complex laboratory experiments, including cell culture, ELISA, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and microscopy. This position requires the isolation of primary megakaryocytes and platelets for weekly experiments, as well as performing general laboratory animal work, such as sterile techniques and tissue collection. The candidate will be responsible for recording, reviewing, and analyzing test results, ensuring the quality and reproducibility of data. Additionally, they will assemble data for presentations, conduct literature searches, and assist in preparing articles for publication. Responsibilities
• Isolate primary megakaryocytes and platelets needed for weekly experiments.

• Perform complex laboratory experiments in the field of cell biology including cell culture, ELISA, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, general biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and microscopy.

• Conduct general laboratory animal work including sterile technique, megakaryocyte isolation, bone marrow isolation, and tissue collection/preparation.
,
• Record, review, and analyze test results, assessing the quality of data and repeating tests as necessary to determine reproducibility of results.
,
• Assemble data in a useful format for presentation to the investigator, including normalizing and graphing results; present data during various meetings and seminars.
,
• Perform literature searches and help prepare presentations and written articles for publication; prepare literature for journal club presentations.
,
• Support general lab operations by purchasing research supplies, performing regular inventory of lab common stocks, helping maintain animal colonies, and culturing both primary cells and cell lines.

Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree required in STEM or Psychology.
,
• One year of prior work experience is preferred.
,
• Analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
,
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
