[Remote] Systems Engineer - Database Administration

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Acuity Insurance is seeking a Systems Engineer on their Database Administration team. The role involves supporting installations of various database systems, performing maintenance, and collaborating with application teams to meet data needs and enhance query performance.ResponsibilitiesCarry out the research, design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of our enterprise data storage software, architectures, tools, methodologies and best practicesRespond to and resolve database access and performance issuesMonitor, optimize, and allocate physical data storage for database systemsDevelop routines to help end-users leverage best practices in database utilizationConduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development effortsFurther develop in-house database utilitiesCreate database objectsDevelop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies in conjunction with application development staffDesign and implement database recovery plans that cover a wide range of scenarios from recovery of a single table, to the recovery of all databases in the event of a disasterDefine and/or implement access controls to our dataEducate Staff on new database technologies and practicesTest new software products and releases as well as hardware devicesAssist in establishing standards and trouble reporting proceduresAssist in system performance monitoring, reporting and tuningAssist in the integration of multiple hardware platformsParticipate in the Disaster Recovery plan and rehearsalsDesign new or revised architectures to include the software, hardware, and communications to support the total requirements and provide for present and future cross-functional requirements and interfacesRemain abreast of company and industry directionsRegular and predictable attendancePerform other duties as assignedSkillsBachelor's or Associate Degree in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent and continued field specific education3-5 years practical experience in computer operations, applications and/or technical support or information securityA keen interest and aptitude for problem identification and resolutionFull understanding of operating system hardware, software, network components, security, and/or database management systemAbility to provide exact audit trials and recovery points during project life cycles to ensure maximum system stabilityAbility to work cooperatively with technical and non-technical system users and industry vendorsGood listening ability as well as the ability to competently train othersWillingness to respond to problems with little notice as well as to adjusting off hours scheduling to meet company project installation datesBe accountable and respond when reached out to for assistance during and outside of typical work hours, this may include participating in an off-hour call listCompany OverviewAcuity Insurance is a leading provider of insurance solutions, delivering exceptional coverage and customer service to individuals and businesses in over 30 states.
