[Remote] Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant will perform advanced accounting tasks and ensure compliance with regulatory and audit commitments while working closely with the accounting team.ResponsibilitiesPrepares monthly journal entries, analyzes and reconciles assigned general ledger accountsEntries may relate to expense accruals and revenue recognition for various lines of businessHandles weekly medical claims check runsPrepares weekly analyses of payments to major providers / facilities and reconciles to relevant claims system operating reportsProcesses and records claim refunds and returned checks in a supporting roleCoordinates with Claims Department on processed claims in errorsManages daily/weekly bank transactions in cash moduleHandles reporting and reconciliation of CIP, Fixed Assets, and Accumulated DepreciationAssists in the preparation of GAAP and Statutory audit deliverablesProvides support and back up for responsibilities assigned to other individuals within the departmentOther ad hoc accounting duties to support the accounting team and newly assigned tasks as deemed necessaryHandles prepaid expense identification and tracking in the accounting systemSkillsBachelor's degree in accounting requiredGeneral ledger and month-end close related accounting experienceProficient in fundamental accounting rulesOne to three or more year's accounting experienceReconciling complex general ledger accountsIdentifying and implementing process improvementsSuccessful completion of pre-employment background checkKnowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices under GAAPStrong reconciliation, problem solving, issue identification and resolutions skills requiredProficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office SystemsAbility and willingness to learn general ledger system and it's componentsDetail oriented, focus on accuracyAbility to prioritize and meet deadlines; or know when it is necessary to confirm priorities with Manager or Assistant ControllerExcellent verbal and communication skillsAbility to work both independently and as part of teamDemonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage modest projects successfullyDetail-oriented, good proof reading and editing skillsCommitment to documenting desk procedures; and training other assignees as back-upSelf-motivated, independent and pro-actively looks to take on new tasksProficiency with reporting and analysis toolsInsurance / healthcare experience preferredKnowledge of statutory accounting is desirableBenefitsMedicalDentalVisionPharmacyMerit increasesFlexible Spending Accounts403(b) savings matchesPaid time offCareer advancement opportunitiesResources to support employee and family wellbeingCompany OverviewA nonprofit health plan serving Medicare, Individual & Family, and Medicaid plan members in Massachusetts & New Hampshire.
