[Remote] Sr. Engineer - Core Network

Lumos Fiber is seeking a Sr. Engineer, Core Network to help design, build, and optimize the core network infrastructure that powers their rapidly expanding fiber footprint. In this role, you will enhance the reliability, scalability, and security of the IP routing environment while evaluating and implementing new technologies to support network growth and performance.ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and support core IP routing infrastructure and related network servicesEvaluate, lab test, and validate new technologies, platforms, and service offerings to support network growth and performance objectivesDesign and implement network security enhancements and infrastructure hardening initiativesDevelop technical requirements and engineering standards for commercial products and network servicesCreate and maintain best practices, design standards, and documentation for current and future network architecturesIdentify opportunities to improve network reliability, scalability, and operational efficiencyProvide Tier IV support for complex network and customer-impacting issues, serving as a technical escalation point across the organizationPartner with Network Operations, Field Operations, Product, Sales Engineering, and Customer Support teams to troubleshoot and resolve service issuesAnalyze recurring network issues and develop long-term solutions that improve network stability and customer experienceResearch, test, and implement operating system upgrades, patches, and infrastructure improvementsSupport strategic initiatives related to IPv6 deployment, routing optimization, network automation, and service innovationParticipate in industry events, vendor demonstrations, and technical training to remain current on emerging technologies and industry trendsSkillsCCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) certification or equivalent hands-on experience supporting enterprise or service provider networksStrong expertise in IP routing, carrier-grade networking, and ISP network operationsExperience designing, implementing, and supporting IPv6 network environmentsExperience with virtualization technologies and virtualized network infrastructureStrong working knowledge of Linux operating systems and administrationExperience working with MySQL and PostgreSQL database structures and environmentsDeep understanding of routing protocols, network architecture, security principles, and network performance optimizationStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences7+ years of experience in network engineering, core network operations, or related telecommunications engineering rolesBachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be consideredExperience supporting Internet Service Provider (ISP) or telecommunications networks strongly preferredExperience with Nokia networking platforms and configurations preferredExperience working with ARIN and internet resource management preferredDemonstrated success designing and supporting scalable network infrastructure in high-growth environmentsBenefitsComprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.Competitive compensation packages, including bonus options for eligible positions.Paid Time Off & Paid Holidays.Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs).100% employer-paid life and disability insurance.Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with access to professional support for life’s challenges.401K plan w/ up to 5% employer contribution and a self-directed brokerage option.Wellness program offering education and cash incentives for gym attendance and nutrition programs.Employee referral bonuses.Discounts on Lumos Fiber Internet for employees who live in our service areas.Company OverviewLumos Fiber is a telecommunications company that specializes in internet, wifi, digital TV, and business voice solutions.
