They are seeking an Early Career Software Development Engineer, AI to assist in designing and implementing AI applications that enhance civic technology products.ResponsibilitiesAssist in the design implementation of human-in-the-loop AI applications that leverage large language models (LLMs), vector databases, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniquesBuild your skills with React, NextJS, DataBricks, Python, and Postgres to enhance our existing open-source products on AWSRapidly learn new domains and apply AI and machine learning methods to enhance campaign and civic technology productsConduct structured experimentation to diagnose problems, validate solutions, and communicate findings effectivelyEvaluate emerging AI frameworks and tools (including MCP and agentic systems) for integration into production environmentsInitially reports to the CTOSkills1-3 years of experience in software developmentStrong technical training in computer science or engineeringDemonstrated passion for LLM integration in web, mobile, and backend systemsExperience with prompt engineering, RAG workflows, and agentic AI systemsPractical experience as an intern or junior engineer using scrum and githubExperience with cloud infrastructureCommitment to responsible and ethical AI development, with awareness of model limitations, bias, and performance considerationsEffective collaboration skills to work cross-functionallyAbility to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiencesPortfolio of projects to showcase experienceYou've built or scaled AI functions in prior rolesYou've spent time as a full stack developer in a prior role with React, NextJS, DataBricks, Python, and Postgres to enhance our existing open-source products on AWSYou've demonstrated domain expertise by achievement of a relevant secondary degreeYou have prior experience as a contributor to an open-source projectYou've studied, worked, or volunteered in politics, civics, or democracy reformYou're tired of sitting on the sidelines while democracy fails to meet its potential – and you're ready to actBenefits100% coverage of health, dental, and vision benefits for you and your dependents.Unlimited PTO (sick and vacation) policy.401(k) program available so you can contribute toward retirement savings (no employer match).Individual learning & development budget to fund your growth.$50/month to help with your internet and other expenses.Company OverviewEmpowering Independents to run, win & serve.
