The Senior Design Build Project Manager - Design Engineering is responsible for overseeing all energy project design and constructability activities during development and preconstruction phases to ensure alignment with project goals and performance expectations.ResponsibilitiesDevelops overall project design approach, strategies, management and oversightPartners with project development and construction teams to ensure alignment of project scopes of work for client, Southland expectations and construction cost estimatesPerforms as lead engineer to ensure that projects are delivered within budget and on schedule while managing the team including HVAC, fire protection, plumbing and electric disciplinesRefines construction scopes of work and design packages during development phases; manages internal/external design teams toward required project deliverables for construction documents from development through construction completionCoordinates with Project Executives and Project Managers on cost estimates, contract and procurement strategies, construction planning and risk managementProvides input and management regarding sub-contractor design partners and vendor strategies, prequalification, scoping, pricing, and management during the preconstruction phasePerforms site investigations and attends in-person meetings with clients, design teams, subcontractors, vendors and other project participants as required. Site visits will include data collection and evaluation of existing conditions, layouts, structures, MEP systems, equipment, components, and materials for projects with and without well-defined scopesDirects activities to verify installed mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials conform to the requirements of project contract documents. Ensures conformance with standards, established design practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and constructionSkillsBachelor's degree from an accredited college or University in mechanical engineeringProfessional Engineering license required in good standingA minimum of 10 years of design, estimating, contracting and management experience within a consulting or design-build firmStrong interpersonal and communication skills to become a collaborative persuasive leader of cross functional teams and help develop favorable customer relationships. Ability to quickly problem solve and think on your feet to find solutions to problemsMust understand the fundamental concepts and practical application of design build/design assist scope development, cost estimating and contractingA thorough understanding of the different trades including MEP and building construction as it relates to cost and scope with an advanced knowledge of varying building structures, architectural requirements, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, equipment types and applications such as Hydronics (chilled, heating hot, and condenser water), Air-side, ventilation, etc. as applicable to multiple vertical markets.
