The role involves managing research awards and transactions related to contract and grant management, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing financial support for post-award activities.ResponsibilitiesDevelops and/or oversees research awards and/or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policiesMonitors awards of moderate scope such as single investigator NSF proposals where analysis of financial information or reports requires review of a variety of factors (e.g. budgets, salaries, expenses, etc)Receives assignments on project basis and fully analyzes problems, gathers data and information, and recommends solutionsCompletes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional officialProvides moderate analytical and financial support in contract and grant administration, management of funds post-award, and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsorsInvolves activities associated with forecasting, planning, and managing of research portfolios by performing some or all of the following: administering and monitoring contract and grant awards, including compliance with regulations, terms and conditions; financial management and reporting from a variety of campus systems, including Kuali, UCPath, and Oracle Financial; and sub award/subcontract issuance and administrationProvides data gathering and analysis to the development of policies and proceduresSkillsKnowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelinesAbility to manage a high volume of transactionsAbility to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reportingDemonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reportsAbility to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focusMaintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administrationDemonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principlesEffective problem-solving skillsKnowledge of OMB circulars such as Uniform Guidance, and principles of cost accounting standards, including allowability, allocability, and reasonableness, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelinesAbility to work in a fast paced environment with overlapping deadlines and short lead times and maintain a high level of attention to detail, and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and follow throughExperience working with computer and information management systems. Strong computer skills in a PC environment using various business software programs (spreadsheets, word-processing, and databases) with a willingness and ability to update and increase skills and knowledge as neededKnowledge of common sponsored award mechanisms and skills to gather and analyze resource data from various sourcesWillingness and demonstrated ability to embrace and consistently uphold the principles of community for a collaborative work environmentExcellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility. Ability to work independently and/or in a team framework in conjunction with principles of community. Ability to work effectively with a diverse population, including faculty, staff, students and the business communityExcellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills that facilitate professional, effective, and courteous interaction with a diverse population.
