[Remote] Release Readiness Engineer / Technical Writer

They are seeking a Release Readiness Engineer / Technical Writer to develop and maintain operator and administrator documentation for UDS capabilities, ensuring that Warfighters and system administrators have clear guidance for installation, operation, and troubleshooting.ResponsibilitiesPlan, author, and maintain installation guides, admin/operator guides, troubleshooting/runbooks, and release notes (as needed) aligned to product releases and operational needsPlan, author, and maintain Warfighter focused end user guidesInstallation & deployment documentation: Create step-by-step install/configuration guides for product components and integrations (including prerequisites, expected outputs, verification steps, and safe rollback guidance)Administration & Day-2 operations: Document operational workflows: upgrades, configuration changes, health checks, resource considerations, and common operational failure modes in constrained/mission environmentsTroubleshooting & runbooks: Build and curate troubleshooting-by-symptom runbooks (diagnosis steps, likely causes, resolution paths, and prevention guidance)Aid development of training modules and job aids for user personasOperate in a Git-based doc workflow (issues/PRs/reviews), establish templates,, and improve/maintain documentationInformation architecture & discoverability: Organize technical documentation so it’s easy to navigate and avoids duplication across productsSkillsU.S. Citizenship is required4+ years writing technical documentation for software platforms (DevSecOps, infrastructure, Kubernetes-adjacent systems strongly preferred)Demonstrated experience producing installation guidesDemonstrated experience producing administrator/operator manualsDemonstrated experience producing troubleshooting guides and runbooksComfortable documenting complex workflows; able to interpret design docs and technical specs and convert them into guidanceStrong collaboration skills with engineering and delivery teams; able to drive clarity, obtain technical decisions, and keep docs aligned with shipped behaviorProficiency with Git-based documentation workflows and modern docs toolchains (Markdown, static-site docs frameworks, review cycles, issue tracking)Experience working in environments with higher operational rigor (airgapped, disconnected/limited connectivity, regulated or government contexts) preferredBenefitsMedical/Dental/VisionPremiums are 100% Company PaidHealth Savings AccountLife InsuranceDisability Insurance401k Retirement PlanCompany Stock OptionsHome Office BudgetWe offer all full-time Unicorns Flexible Time Off (FTO) plus all Federal Holidays, one week for Thanksgiving, and two weeks for Christmas and New Year’sPaid Parental LeaveReimbursement for approved trainings/subscriptionsConferences (travel, lodging, and fees)Company OverviewDefense Unicorns is a software startup that provides open-source software and AI capabilities for national security systems.
