[Remote] Principal Software Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Software Engineer to lead enterprise-wide architectural initiatives, define long-term technology strategy, and deliver highly scalable, resilient distributed systems.ResponsibilitiesDefine enterprise-level architectural standards, system design principles, and engineering guardrails that shape engineering work across multiple business unitsLead the design and implementation of highly scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems that operate at global scaleArchitect multi-region, fault-tolerant, and globally distributed platforms with rigorous attention to availability, durability, and disaster recoveryDrive enterprise modernization initiatives, including microservices transformation, platform consolidation, and legacy decommissioningDefine API governance, data architecture, and service communication patterns adopted across the engineering organizationDesign systems for extreme scalability, availability, and security, including detailed capacity planning and resilience modelingEvaluate and select high-performance data storage solutions appropriate to each major workload classLead reliability engineering and incident response improvements, raising the bar on operational excellence enterprise-wideConduct deep architectural reviews and performance audits across multiple platformsGuide engineering teams on concurrency, scalability, observability, and optimization strategiesDesign observability and monitoring frameworks at enterprise scale, defining standards for metrics, logs, and traces that work consistently across many teams and many production environmentsDefine DevOps, CI/CD, and automation strategy across engineering teams and platformsPartner with executive leadership and product management on technology roadmap decisionsMentor Staff and Senior Engineers and contribute substantively to talent growth across the organizationDrive innovation and continuously evaluate emerging technologies for strategic adoptionLead the resolution of critical system-level production issues that require deep architectural insightSkillsBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related disciplineTen or more years of professional software engineering experienceProven expertise designing distributed, high-scale systems in productionAdvanced proficiency in Java, Go, C++, or similar backend languagesDeep understanding of data modeling, system optimization, and performance tuningExperience leading cross-team technical initiatives across multiple business unitsStrong expertise in reliability engineering and distributed architecturesDemonstrated leadership in architectural decision-making at enterprise scaleExcellent written and verbal communication skillsTrack record of mentoring senior engineers and shaping engineering culturePublic technical contributions (papers, talks, OSS leadership)Experience driving multi-year transformation programsFamiliarity with FinOps and large-scale cost optimizationExposure to regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, government)Advanced degree or equivalent industry recognitionBenefitsCompetitive base salary commensurate with experience, plus benefits.No new H1B sponsorship available.
