[Remote] P & C Designer (Protection and Controls)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. GFT is seeking an experienced Substation P & C Designer to join their expanding Power Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for the protection and control design of high voltage substation projects, ensuring project safety, cost, quality, and reliability while utilizing advanced technologies.ResponsibilitiesDesign and execution of high-voltage substations projects in the 4kV – 765kV range with an emphasis on project safety, cost, quality, and reliabilityGenerate designs and detailed engineering deliverables working under the supervision of lead engineer and project managerComplete basic engineering calculations related to design/engineering deliverablesDevelop one & three line diagrams; schematics and wiring diagrams; control and relay panel layout and specifications; control and relay panel and equipment wiring diagrams; SCADA system and communications interfaces including RTUs, HMIs and IEDs; auxiliary system design including batteries and chargersCompile complete list of relay and control materials for substation projects, and quote/order materials as necessary per contractual agreements with customersFollow specific instructions of supervisor or engineers to perform the more complex design assignments requiring application of standard design principles and practicesInvestigate new and existing substation technical drawings and conditions to ensure that installation and operations conform to industry standards and customer requirementsTravel to job sites for project assessment and data(notes, pictures, etc.) gathering as neededCommunicate and interact with clientsPerform quality reviews of projects completed by peersSkills2+ years of relevant substation or general electrical T&D designing experienceKnowledge and ability to utilize computer-aided drafting including AutoCAD & MicroStationFamiliar knowledge of the following codes: National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)Knowledge of substation voltages, MV, HV, EHVAbility to apply project schedules to complete tasks in a timely manner and within project budgetAbility to write routine reports and correspondenceAbility to review project documents and recommend value engineering ideasAbility to proficiently use Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)Experience in the energy industry or a consulting services environmentThorough knowledge of the following codes: National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)BenefitsHybrid (in-person and remote) work environment.Comprehensive benefits package including wellness programs, parental leave, and pet insurance, in addition to medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance.Tax-deferred 401(k) savings plan.Competitive paid-time-off (PTO) accrual.Tuition reimbursement for continued education.Commitment to professional development, access to internal and external training programs, and support of active participation in professional organizationsIncentive compensation for eligible positions.Company OverviewGFT provides architecture, engineering, and construction services focused on the development and improvement of infrastructure systems.
