[Remote] Mortgage Underwriter III

They are seeking a Mortgage Underwriter III who will perform a wide range of underwriting duties for residential mortgage loans, lead an underwriting team, and ensure compliance with credit guidelines while maintaining high levels of customer service.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Utilize all systems in place, including automated underwriting to underwrite files in a timely manner
ā¢ Underwrite conventional, portfolio loans, and FHA/VA loans
ā¢ Underwrite simultaneous second lien/home equity loans in appropriate origination system, within approved RCC lending authority
ā¢ Manage expected service levels related to decision and condition clearing
ā¢ Update information on loan origination systems to verify, add, and satisfy conditions
ā¢ Contact Loan Originators with the decision on the loan immediately after underwriting the file
ā¢ Monitor quality levels to ensure adherence to standards
ā¢ Ensure team is providing a high level of customer service to internal and external customers
ā¢ Determine success rate of meeting certain benchmarks, and update required team performance reports
ā¢ Retrieve, review, distribute, and discuss reports related to the underwriting team
ā¢ Monitor compliance issues, including that all team members attend required meetings and that all staff are in compliance with state and federal regulations
ā¢ Provide feedback to other staff and loan officers
ā¢ Demonstrate leadership skills as a team player by providing superior customer service, being flexible and approachable
ā¢ Responsible for the accuracy of HMDA decision data entry
ā¢ Serve as an intermediary for loan issues with the Regional Sales Managers
ā¢ Actively participate in ongoing efforts to continually improve customer service for internal and external customers
ā¢ Perform personnel tasks for the team such as time sheets, coaching, and identifying training needs
ā¢ Assist in training new hires
ā¢ Maintain knowledge of Fifth Third Mortgage Company policies and procedures in addition to private investors, government investors and portfolio Credit Policy and Guidelines
ā¢ Consumer lending credit authority is commensurate with consumer lending authority guidelines and business need
Skills
ā¢ Must have five (5) years experience in Underwriting
ā¢ In-depth knowledge of conventional, government and portfolio lending guidelines FHA DE, VA LAPP preferred
ā¢ Must have demonstrated ability to analyze complex loan requests including cash flow analysis of business and personal tax return
ā¢ Knowledge of the complete mortgage lending process
ā¢ Knowledge of financial analysis techniques
ā¢ High degree of attention to detail
ā¢ Demonstrated organizational skills
ā¢ Demonstrated leadership skills
ā¢ Strong written and verbal communications skills
ā¢ Demonstrated teamwork and customer service skills
ā¢ Strong PC skills (MS Office) required, must have experience with Mortgage origination systems, platforms tools and technology
ā¢ Ability to analyze policies, procedures and guidelines in a way that maximizes productivity but protects the level of risk desired
ā¢ Ability to make decisions in a time sensitive manner
ā¢ Previous management experience preferred
