[Remote] Mortgage Underwriter

Lendz Financial is a full-service direct wholesale residential mortgage lending platform focused on helping mortgage brokers grow their loan origination volume. The Non-QM Underwriter role involves underwriting complex loan files and collaborating with various teams to ensure efficient processing and compliance with guidelines. Responsibilities • Underwrite residential mortgage loan applications in compliance with company, investor, and regulatory guidelines • Analyze borrower credit, assets, and income, including complex income scenarios such as: • Self-employed borrowers • 1099 income • Bank Statement programs • Asset depletion and utilization • Review and evaluate personal and business documentation, including 12- and 24-month bank statements, P&Ls, and cash flow statements • Maintain an underwriting pipeline that meets established SLAs and productivity benchmarks • Deliver clear, well-documented underwriting decisions and conditions aligned with program guidelines • Provide written justification for loan decisions and required conditions • Partner with Loan Officers, Account Managers, and Operations to resolve file-level questions and move loans efficiently toward closing • Support quality control standards, including: • Pre-closing defect rate below 10% • Post-closing defect rate below 5% • Stay current on Non-QM guideline updates, investor overlays, and regulatory requirements • Contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement and shared success Skills • 2–5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, including exposure to Non-QM or alternative documentation loans • Working knowledge of Non-QM products such as Bank Statement programs, DSCR, Asset Utilization, 1099 income • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex borrower profiles • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills • A coachable mindset with a desire to learn, grow, and evolve within the role • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and a high level of accountability Benefits • Highly subsidized medical insurance • Low-cost dental and vision insurance • 401(k) program • Health Savings Account (HSA) • Generous paid time off and company holidays • Ongoing training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities • A collaborative, supportive work environment that values ownership and growth Company Overview • Lendz Financial provides mortgage lending services to US retail clients and foreign nationals.
