They are seeking a skilled Orbital Analyst to monitor and analyze the position and velocity of artificial objects in Earth orbit or deep space, perform precise orbit determination, and ensure mission success through collaboration with flight operations mission teams.ResponsibilitiesContinuously monitoring the position and velocity of artificial objects in Earth orbit or deep spaceApplying mathematical models and observational data to precisely calculate orbital parametersPredicting potential close approaches between objects and recommending necessary avoidance maneuversDesigning optimal trajectories for spacecraft launches, orbital transfers, and reentriesTracking and cataloging space debris to help prevent dangerous collisionsAssessing the risk of collision between various space objectsDeveloping and using tools to perform precise orbit determination using specialized software toolsMonitoring and analyzing spacecraft and satellite trajectories while supporting mission planning through trajectory design and optimizationMaintaining space catalogs and applicable processes that enable mission executionGenerating detailed reports on conjunction events and close approachesSpecifying, architecting, and integrating complex system solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to understand project requirements and objectivesDeriving, decomposing, allocating, tracing, and managing system requirements and architecturesDefining and documenting system concepts of operationSupporting development milestone reviews by creating artifacts and deliverablesOverseeing system integration and verification activities to ensure system functionality and performanceIdentifying and managing technical risks, developing mitigation strategies, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas for enhancementAdhering to established engineering processes and standardsCommunicating effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure project alignment and successful executionSkillsRequires Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree or Masters +3 yrs experience)Typically 5+ years of related experience (or Masters + 3 years of experience)Emerging expertise in Systems Engineering principles and practices, including a thorough understanding of the systems development lifecycleKnowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocationKnowledge of systems architecture, systems integration, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principlesEmerging ability to work and communicate with technical and specialty subject matter expert engineers to drive systems engineering productsAn active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance is requiredKnowledge of spacecraft mission planning, scheduling, and orbit analysisExperience with astrodynamics libraries, propagators, etcExperience working commercial and/or government Space Domain Awareness programsExtensive experience or education in orbital mechanicsAbility to script, C, C++, Python, JavaScript, Ruby or related programming experienceExperience with Government Cloud Architectures (GovCloud or others)Extensive experience or education in RPODExperience with C2 and TT&C Software DevelopmentFull Stack DeveloperCloudera, OpenShift, Kubernetes experience; either on or working with software, DevSecOps, etc teamsCompany OverviewSierra Space is a commercial space company that specializes in the development of advanced space technologies and solutions.
