The role involves leading a team of engineers, ensuring project budgets and schedules are met, and driving business development and organizational support.ResponsibilitiesEnsure the Engineering Unit staff maintain schedules, budgets and quality of deliverablesWork with Project Managers to define the scope of workDirect/assign work to the Engineering Unit to balance activitiesAssigns Lead Responsible Engineer (LRE)Maintain responsibility for the Unit’s quality; establish and enforce quality standards for the Unit through the Work Group Leads and SupervisorsMaintain, update, and execute Unit Continuous Improvement PlansAccountable for ensuring project budget and schedule are met for Unit’s assigned projectsResponsible for the approval of engineering documents produced by the UnitHire, develop and retain staffIdentify and promote opportunities for site workIdentify and promote training opportunities (ex: owner’s groups, manufacturer, professional society)Utilize the review/approval process of deliverables as technical training opportunity for staffProvide timely and appropriate performance feedback and coachingPromote professional development (ex: professional license, certifications, and client qualifications)Support, follow, and enforce company policies and proceduresIdentify and develop future leaders of the organizationDemonstrate technical leadership, providing resolution to technical issues either through own knowledge or by coordination with Subject Matter ExpertDrive continuous improvement in the organization utilizing the lessons learned and corrective action programsAggressively support marketing efforts and business planningLead proposal preparation with input from discipline supervisors for scope and budget and review final proposals with Project ManagersDevelop and maintain professional relationships with client counterpartsAssist with development and execution of business plan development and implementation, market assessment and planning, contract negotiation, product and service developmentAttend conferences and meet with clients in person when requiredResponsible for the assignment of engineering resources to projects through Supervisors and Work Group LeadsMaintain short- and long-range staffing projections based on work projectionsApprove timesheets and expense reports of assigned personnel and other direct reportsConduct annual performance appraisals, appropriately documenting regular performance and ensuring performance on both ends of the spectrum, both positive and negative, is managed effectivelyMeets applied time goals for self; in addition, ensures that his/her staff meets their applied time goalsSkillsBachelor's Degree with a minimum 10 years of total experience in mechanical engineering with 5 years in data centersData Center Mechanical Systems Design Expertise with knowledge of sustainability, energy, and CFD modelingPE License requiredStrong coordination and team building skills; demonstrated ability to work across disciplines, divisions, and teams Ability to assess and understand team strengths and weaknesses and adjust level of support/oversight as appropriateAbility to motivate team members and achieve goals through positive, winning attitude and effective leadership style which is consistent with ENERCON's Defining Excellence fundamentalsActivities at client sites may require pre-job briefs and walkdowns at the site, including occasional climbingExcellent verbal communication skills; Comfortable and effective communicator with staff, clients (internal and external), management, etc., choosing the right mode of communication for the situation and relaying the right messageStrong technical writing, attention to detail, and human performance skillsRequired to travel up to 20% of the time to client sites (expected to travel at least one time per month) for project and/or marketing meetingsCompany OverviewENERCON is a multi-discipline engineering and environmental engineering support services firm focused on delivering safe and efficient solutions for the power, data center and industrial sectors.
