[Remote] Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Northramp is seeking a Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator and Application Architect to support complex enterprise systems. This role involves managing DB2 for z/OS databases, optimizing system performance, and collaborating with technical teams to ensure alignment with organizational standards.ResponsibilitiesManage, configure, and maintain DB2 for z/OS databases across Development, Test, and ProductionRefresh datasets and environments to support testing cyclesDevelop database conversion routines to support new projects or modernization effortsOptimize system and application performance by tuning SQL queries, identifying bottlenecks, and monitoring resource consumptionPlan and execute DB2 utilities such as REORG, RUNSTATS, LOAD, UNLOAD, COPY, and REBUILD INDEXImplement structural database changes (DDL), stored procedure modifications, and bind plans/packagesResearch and resolve abends, performance issues, and production defectsDevelop and execute SQL as needed to correct data issuesDefine and maintain backup and recovery strategies, perform DR drills, and ensure the integrity of data assetsDefine enterprise application architecture inclusive of systems, web services, integration patterns, and data modelsProvide development support and mentorship to technical teams, conducting code and architecture reviews as neededProduce technical documentation including data models, process flows, and specifications for system changesEnsure solutions align with architectural standards, security requirements, and system performance goalsCollaborate closely with analysts, developers, technical leads, and stakeholders on system design, task execution, quality, and delivery timelinesCommunicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiencesSupport cross-functional teams by providing subject matter expertise during planning, development, and troubleshootingSkillsExperience performing IT engineering tasks of moderate complexity under minimal supervisionStrong DB2 database skills with hands-on database administration experienceExperience in system architecture and application designExperience with both mainframe and distributed computing platformsAbility to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problemsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively across teams and maintain professional client-facing interactionsExperience with banking, financial, or loan processing systemsExperience with Java, ASP, Cobol, JCL, and related legacy technologiesExperience with web service design and development (SOAP/REST)Familiarity with batch, asynchronous, and event-driven integrationsExperience supporting system modernization or cloud-integration effortsBenefitsHealth Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity)Short Term & Long Term DisabilityTraining & DevelopmentWork From HomeWellness ResourcesEmployee Bonus ProgramsCompany OverviewNorthramp is a consulting company located in Reston.
