[Remote] Interim Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) is a 150-year-old conservation nonprofit focused on outdoor recreation from Maine to Virginia. They are seeking an Interim Senior Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis to provide leadership during a 12-week leave period, overseeing key financial planning cycles and ensuring high-quality analysis and timely delivery of materials.ResponsibilitiesLead the August reforecast process (executed in September/October), coordinating inputs across departmentsReview and validate forecast updates prepared by budget managersChallenge assumptions and ensure consistency and accuracy across projectionsDevelop clear, decision-ready materials for the Finance Committee (early October) and Board (mid October), including variance analysis, key risks, and recommendationsPartner closely with the CFO to align on messaging and key takeawaysLead the annual budgeting process, building on the draft developed over the summerCoordinate with department leaders to refine inputs, incorporate updates, and resolve gapsOversee consolidation and validation of budget data and assumptionsPrepare final annual budget materials for leadership review and approval in early DecemberDrive the annual budget through final revisions, materials production, and presentation, such that it is complete upon the Director’s returnManage and support the Financial Analyst, who will execute much of the detailed model updates and data work, with direct oversight and ownership of the final work productProvide direction, prioritization, and quality control across all FP&A outputsStep in on complex, sensitive, or ambiguous areas as neededServe as the primary FP&A contact for department budget leaders during planning cyclesKeep reforecast and budget processes on schedule through proactive communication and follow-upPartner closely with the CFO on key decisions, tradeoffs, and issue resolutionComplete a structured 4-week transition to gain familiarity with models, processes, and stakeholdersDocument key assumptions, changes, and decisions made during the assignmentEnsure a smooth and organized handoff to Director at the conclusion of the assignmentOwn: process management, analysis, model outputs, and development of all financial materialsPartner with CFO: messaging, key assumptions, and tradeoff decisionsCFO leads: executive and Finance Committee and Board presentations and final decision-makingSkills7+ years of FP&A experience leading budgets and reforecasts; familiarity with non-profit budgeting (including restricted funds/grants) preferredStrong ability to synthesize financial data into clear, executive-ready materialsExperience managing timelines and coordinating cross-functional inputsStrong review skills—able to validate and refine models built by othersStrong preference given to candidates who have led an annual budget or reforecast process end-to-endExperience with Sage Intacct accounting and Vena Solutions planning software platforms a strong plusBenefitsInsurance: Available with positions that are 6 months or longer and when working greater than 30 hours per weekRetirement: Voluntary 403(b) ContributionPaid Time Off: earn up to 10 days of paid earned time depending on length of service30% discount on AMC MerchandiseFree Annual AMC Membership4 Free nights at AMC locationsProdeals discounts on equipment & gear and more!Company OverviewAppalachian Mountain Club promotes the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the mountains.
