[Remote] Director, Business Development & State Engagement

The Director, Business Development & State Engagement is responsible for driving growth by building relationships with state and district education systems and aligning assessment solutions with education priorities.ResponsibilitiesCultivate and maintain exceptional relationships with state education agency leaders, district leaders, and key stakeholders to support business development, renewals, and program expansionImplement stateālevel engagement and procurement strategies that support adoption and sustained use of CAIās products and services in alignment with company prioritiesMaintain an upātoādate inventory of state assessment contracts, including duration, costs, and vendor ownershipCollaborate with Programs and Business Development teams to anticipate RFP cycles and align CAIās solutions with state priorities, emphasizing innovative, and researchābased assessment modelsBuild trusted relationships with state and district leaders and partner organizations to support implementation, alignment, and longāterm success of assessment programsWork across internal teams to align offerings with state and district needs, support innovative solutions, and ensure coordinated engagement and successful delivery. This role partners closely with CAIās Leadership TeamDevelop and manage internal reporting mechanismsāsuch as realātime policy alerts and executive briefingsāto keep stakeholders informed of evolving Kā12 policies, procurement regulations, and funding shifts that impact CAIās portfolio and competitive positionCollaborate with Cambium Learningās government relations team to monitor state and federal developments affecting assessment, accountability, data privacy, and funding, informing strategic planning and engagementTrack emerging technology policies, including student data privacy and responsible use of AIāenabled tools, to support compliant and forwardālooking solution positioningEngage state education stakeholders to build understanding of CAIās solutions, demonstrating value, outcomes, and alignment with system prioritiesRepresent CAI at highāprofile meetings, conferences, and public forums to position the organization as a thought leader in educational assessment and innovationSkillsMinimum 10+ years of experience in educational business development, government relations, or state education agencies, including at least 5 years focused on Kā12 student assessment or EdTechDemonstrated success influencing and supporting stateālevel education procurement for largeāscale programsAbility to communicate fluently about psychometrics, computerāadaptive testing (CAT), item development, program management, and ethical considerations of AI in educationBachelor's degree required; Master's degree or JD highly preferredAbility to travel 25ā50% to support priority state engagements and industry conferencesExperience in state government relations and direct advocacy is highly preferredEstablished relationships across state education agencies, assessment leaders, and national education organizations are highly preferredCompany OverviewCambium Assessment is an education and training center.
