[Remote] Associate Underwriter E&S Commercial Auto

They are seeking an Associate Underwriter for the Commercial Auto Division to support underwriters by processing submissions, assisting with quoting and binding, and providing quality customer service throughout the underwriting life cycle.ResponsibilitiesProcess submissions by providing account triage for UnderwritersProvide backup support for Underwriters when traveling in the marketGather and compile information required to quote and/or bind an account through communication and/or correspondence with producersGenerate, edit, and send out a variety of correspondence on behalf of the Underwriters such as declination letters, quote follow ups and subjectivity remindersDemonstrate basic understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk underwriting characteristicsLearn market dynamics, competitive landscape, and product differences (attend weekly underwriting meetings if applicable, ask questions) – need to understand what business is selling (understanding why deals are lost and adjusting accordingly)Provide customer service and underwriting support to help achieve new and renewal premium goalsBuild relationships with producers with supervision from more senior underwritersFill in for other team members to ensure business continuity during peak periods and/or when team members are unavailableAssist Underwriters as requestedComplete other related clerical and administrative duties as assignedComplete other various projects and tasks as assignedWorking towards Underwriting Authority, but does not have it yetQuote issuance as approved by underwriter(s) with appropriate level of authorityBinder issuance as approved by underwriter(s) with appropriate level of authorityPolicy Issuance reviewConduct inspection, review, and analysis resulting in appropriate issue identification, and process post inspection changes as necessarySkillsFoundational knowledge of insurance principlesProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)Ability to follow policies and proceduresComplete assigned tasks correctly, on time and able to learn quicklySelf-motivated and demonstrating attention to detailBe able to work independently for extended periodsExcellent written and verbal communication skills as well as general business understandingTravel up to 10% with an underwriter to shadow and participate in interactions between Underwriters and brokersMust be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, with occasional movement in the office to access cabinets and equipmentBachelor's degree in risk management, finance, business or a related field preferred0-2 years experience as an associate underwriter, underwriter, or relevant insurance experienceBenefitsMedicalDentalVisionA wide variety of wellbeing offersCompetitive salaryUnlimited PTO401k with company matchPaid volunteer daysCompany OverviewWe’re Howden, the people first insurance group with employee ownership at its heart.
