[Remote] Artificial Intelligence Engineer

Calance is looking for an AI Forward Deployed Engineer who will be responsible for deploying, integrating, and operating AI solutions in real customer production environments. This role involves translating AI capabilities into reliable and high-performing systems while working closely with customers and cross-functional teams.ResponsibilitiesLead customer-facing deployments of AI solutions from initial integration through production launch and stabilizationIntegrate AI systems into existing customer architectures, including applications, APIs, data pipelines, and infrastructureDesign and support AI inference architectures optimized for scalability, resiliency, latency, and costTroubleshoot complex production issues across model, application, infrastructure, and data layersBuild automation and scripts to accelerate deployments, testing, diagnostics, and operational workflowsImplement and tune observability, including monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting for AI systemsPerform performance tuning and capacity planning for inference workloadsSupport deployments across cloud, on-prem, and hybrid environments, adapting solutions to customer constraintsApply security-aware implementation practices, including identity and access management, secrets handling, and data protectionAct as a technical bridge between data science, engineering, and operations teams, ensuring smooth handoffs and shared understandingServe as a technical escalation point during deployments and early production operationsDocument deployment patterns, operational runbooks, and best practices to improve repeatability and reliabilityProvide feedback from real-world deployments to inform product and platform improvementsSkillsStrong experience deploying and operating production systems, ideally with AI or ML componentsProven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues under time pressureExperience designing or supporting AI inference pipelinesProficiency in automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, or similar)Solid understanding of observability and performance tuning in distributed systemsExperience working across cloud, on-prem, or hybrid infrastructure environmentsWorking knowledge of security best practices for production systemsStrong communication skills and comfort working directly with customers and cross-functional teamsExperience with LLM-based systems, RAG architectures, or agent-based workflowsFamiliarity with containerization, orchestration, and CI/CD pipelinesBackground in SRE, platform engineering, DevOps, or systems engineeringExperience operating in fast-moving or ambiguous environmentsPrior customer-facing technical or forward-deployed role experienceCompany OverviewA CMMI Level 5 certified company offering IT services and solutions such as cloud, IT staffing, web & mobile development, and more.
