The Program Coordinator will support the New York Community Trails Program by advancing large-scale trail projects, conducting research, and managing community engagement efforts.ResponsibilitiesResearch, grant writing, general administrative assistance (60%)Conduct background research to inform trail planning and stakeholder engagement across all project corridorsTrack and monitor local and state funding opportunities relevant to trails, greenways, and open space developmentAssist in drafting, editing, and assembling grant applications, including narrative development, data gathering, and supporting documentationSupport reporting requirements for awarded grants, including collecting metrics, drafting progress reports, and maintaining compliance documentationPrepare presentations and other materials for project related outreachMaintain organized project files, timelines, contact databases, and tracking systems to ensure consistent coordination across multiple trail initiativesCoordinate meetings with agency partners, consultants, and community stakeholders, including scheduling, preparing agendas, taking notes, and tracking follow-up itemsProvide general administrative support to the Trails team, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across projects in Binghamton, Buffalo, Queens, and Long IslandOther duties as assignedConduct Community Engagement Activities (20%)Create and distribute surveys to capture community inputMaintain and document communication with external partners, including growing list of community partners and work to build new community relationshipsCreate and distribute public facing materials such as one pagers, flyers, etcLead or assist with community engagement activities including public events, cleanups, tours, and school workshopsLead community engagement efforts by managing outreach, creating meeting agendas, and tracking key decisionsEngage schools and youth organizations for workshops and activitiesTable at local events such as Metro Village Community Day, or Forest Park Trust hosted clean upsServe as a point of contact for staff, stakeholders, and the publicAid with grant applications for community partnersBe creative and thoughtful in the approach to gaining community support in ways that are true to the community in which we are workingOther duties as assignedNYC Community Schoolyards Assistance (20%)Work with lawyers and Program Director to create construction contracts, and other documentation for constructionProcess invoices for reimbursementKeep track of payments and reimbursementsCoordinate with TPL Finance Department, lawyers, agency partners, landscape architects and consultantsAssist at playground events such as tours, assemblies, meetings, openings and planting daysOther duties as assignedSkillsStrong commitment to TPL's shared values (Belonging, Creativity, Collaboration, Impact, and Hope) to effectively work across the organizationAt least one year of experience in conservation, outdoor recreation, community engagement, or land use planningStrong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functional and regional teamsExcellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasksEvening and weekend work is expectedTravel within the state of NY about once a quarterBenefitsMedical, dental, and vision insuranceVacation and sick pay plus holidaysA year end office closureA 403(b)-retirement plan, currently with up to a 7% company matchCompany OverviewTrust for Public Land is a group working to protect and save public lands instead of allowing their sale or abuse.
