Part-Time HR Generalist | Independent Contractor

Remote Full-time
Part-Time HR Consultant

Type: Part-Time Contract

Compensation: $100/hour

Hours: 15–20 hours per month

Location: Washington, DC (Remote)

Engagement: 3–6 months
About the Role

Influence HR is looking for an experienced HR Consultant to help manage and evolve our people operations as we grow. This is a part-time, fractional engagement for someone who thrives in small business environments and can operate with a high degree of autonomy.

You'll be stepping into a role where the groundwork has been laid by the founder — and your job is to bring structure, consistency, and best practices to our HR function so the business can scale without the founder in the day-to-day.
What You'll Do
• Audit current HR practices and identify gaps in compliance, documentation, and process
• Develop and maintain core HR policies (employee handbook, PTO, performance management, onboarding/offboarding)
• Own recruiting coordination and candidate experience for open roles
• Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations issues and questions
• Ensure compliance with federal and state employment law
• Support payroll and benefits administration in coordination with our existing vendors
• Advise leadership on compensation, org structure, and people strategy as needed
What We're Looking For
• 10+ years of HR experience, ideally in a small or mid-size company environment
• PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred
• Proven ability to work independently and manage priorities without day-to-day oversight
• Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR compliance
• Experience building or improving HR infrastructure from the ground up
• Excellent communication skills — you'll be the face of HR for our team
• Comfortable being a generalist: this role spans recruiting, compliance, employee relations, and policy
Nice to Have
• Experience working with or within HR consulting firms
• Familiarity with common HRIS and payroll platforms (e.g. Gusto, Rippling, ADP)
• Prior experience in a fractional or consulting capacity
Engagement Details
• 15–20 hours per month
• Flexible scheduling; availability for team questions during core business hours (Washington, DC) preferred
• Initial engagement of 3–6 months with potential to extend
