Online Reading + Phonics Tutor for Kids (USA)

Who We Are: Young Readers Academy is an online tutoring business that helps children ages 4–8 build strong foundational reading skills through fun, personalized, and engaging lessons. We serve a mix of homeschool and public school families across the U.S., focusing on phonics, decoding, reading fluency, and confidence-building. Our approach is rooted in connection, flexibility, and encouragement. Our mission is to spark a love for reading by helping young learners feel inspired, supported and confident in their skills. What We’re Looking For: We are currently hiring a part-time reading tutor to teach 1:1 online lessons using Zoom. Our ideal candidate is warm, patient, and experienced in working with early readers, especially those who may be struggling with phonics or fluency. You should be committed to building long-term relationships with students and excited about making reading fun and meaningful. Ideal Candidate Has: • Previous experience teaching reading, phonics, or early literacy (specifically ages 4–8) • Understands how to support beginning and struggling readers with patience and creativity • Brings a high-energy, joyful presence when teaching kids • Uses a student-centered, encouraging and creative teaching style • Has strong communication skills and a dependable work ethic • Is excited to grow with a small team that’s passionate about helping kids fall in love with reading • Is familiar with Science of Reading-aligned methods and/or Orton-Gillingham • Has experience using online teaching tools like Zoom, Google Slides, Boom Cards, etc. Responsibilities Include: • Teaching 1:1 virtual reading and phonics lessons to students ages 4–8 • Using a mix of your own materials and provided resources to plan lessons • Building positive relationships with students and families • Communicating progress and updates with parents weekly • Committing to consistent weekly sessions with the same students • Managing your own schedule reliably (with support from our team) Schedule + Compensation: • Pay: $25/hour • Hours: Flexible, choose your own schedule (2–20 hours/week to start) • Contract Type: 1099 Independent Contractor • Commitment: 6-month minimum preferred • Location: Remote (must be based in the U.S. and able to pass a background check) Why Join Us? • Flexible schedule you create • Support from an experienced reading tutor & curriculum guidance if needed • Opportunity to build long-term student relationships • Work with families who are kind, communicative, and invested in their child’s success • Positive, mission-driven tutoring business run by a fellow teacher To Apply: Please complete the application form here: We ask for: • Your resume • A short video (5 min or less) introducing yourself, your experience with early readers, why you want to join Young Readers Academy, and why you’d be a great fit • Your general availability + start date Job Types: Part-time, Contract Pay: From $25.00 per hour Benefits: • Flexible schedule Schedule: • Choose your own hours Work Location: Remote Apply tot his job
