Medical Assistant (Remote Only - Work from home)

Job Title: Remote Medical Assistant (Contract Basis)Job Summary:We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Medical Assistant to join our primary care family medicine practice on a remote, contract basis. The ideal candidate will handle critical administrative tasks, including prior authorizations, referrals, reviewing patient messages, prescription refills, and more. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Our practice uses AthenaHealth as our EMR platform.Key Responsibilities:Prior Authorizations: Process and follow up on medication and treatment prior authorizations with insurance companies.Referrals: Coordinate and complete patient referrals, ensuring all required documentation is accurate and sent to specialists or other healthcare facilities.Patient Messages: Review and respond to patient messages within the EMR system in a timely and professional manner.Prescription Refills: Review refill requests, verify accuracy, and process as per practice protocols.Patient Communication: Call back patients to address inquiries, provide updates, and clarify instructions as needed.Document Management: Label, organize, and sort patient documents in the AthenaHealth EMR system, ensuring all records are up-to-date and accessible.Phone Management: Remotely handle phone calls, ensuring patients receive prompt and courteous service.Requirements:Experience as a Medical Assistant, Medical Administrator, or Medical Receptionist is preferred but not required.Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification is a plus.Strong familiarity with prior authorizations, referrals, and prescription processes.Proficiency in using AthenaHealth EMR is a significant advantage.Excellent communication and organizational skills.Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and manage time effectively.Reliable internet connection and suitable home office setup.Work Schedule & Pay:Flexible Hours: Work hours are flexible, with some tasks requiring availability during business hours and others offering the flexibility to work during non-business hours.Production-Based Pay: Compensation will be based on completed tasks and production metrics.Contract Type:This is a remote, independent contractor role.
