Launched in February 2021, More Perfect Union’s coverage has garnered 1 billion video views and 4 million followers and subscribersWe’re hiring a Media Monitor to help drive our real-time news coverage and rapid response on social media. Our social accounts are already powerful tools for advancing our original reporting, breaking news, and shaping narratives to empower working people. We’re looking for people who live and breathe the news and have exceptional research skills to expand our reach and help make our social accounts hubs for emerging news moments, TV clips, and viral videos relevant to our mission. This role requires a high-level of self-sufficiency, strong editorial judgement and news sense, and the ability to recognize and respond to relevant news quickly.Core Responsibilities: Closely monitor a broad range of sources — including cable news, legislative hearings, presidential briefings, livestreams, podcasts, social media influencers, campaign events and so onIdentify several pieces of video, audio, and other content that More Perfect Union should elevate every day, and work with team members to optimize the content for engagement on social media platformsAdding captions to video and and drafting copy for social media posts as neededReport to the Director of Audience Engagement and social media team on newsworthy moments and breakout stories as they gain tractionScour social media, Reddit, and similar sources for compelling or newsworthy user-generated content relevant to our mission (i.e., videos or photos documenting worker actions and political protests)Consistently uphold strict editorial standards for accuracy and credibilityOperate in a nimble, fast paced environmentPerform other duties as assignedExperience/Qualifications: At least 5 years of experience working in media monitoring and research, preferably as part of a news, campaign, or advocacy organization;Extremely active consumer of news content on and off social media;Strong editorial judgement, understanding of journalistic practices and ethics, and experience working within a fast-paced news cycle;Demonstrated research skills, as well as a track record of using these skills to generate engagement and views on social media content;Proven ability to grow audiences on social media, in particular TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube;Substantial knowledge of national politics, the labor movement, and economic issues;Passion for experimenting with new and emerging social media platforms and coverage formats;A self-starter who pays close attention to detail and is highly organized and capable of meeting tight deadlines.At More Perfect Union we strive to increase diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in all elements of our work.
