This role owns the full product lifecycleâfrom discovery and backlog strategy through delivery, release, and continuous optimizationâfor complex, highly regulated healthcare solutions.The Lead Product Owner partners deeply with Engineering, Architecture, Quality, Compliance, and Business stakeholders to ensure problems are clearly defined, solutions are technically sound, regulatory requirements are met, and customer value is delivered predictably at scale. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy, drives complex crossâteam dependencies, and sets the standard for product ownership excellence while mentoring other Product Owners.This position requires strong domain expertise, technical fluency, and the ability to balance strategic intent with handsâon execution in a fastâmoving, highâimpact environment.Key Outcomes & ImpactEndâtoâend ownership of complex clinical and billing product domains, driving initiatives from concept through production release with minimal oversightStrong engineering partnership resulting in efficient sequencing, reliable delivery, and wellâdesigned, scalable solutionsHighâquality delivery with a strong quality mindsetâmeeting sprint commitments, Definition of Done, and regulatory obligations with low defect leakageClear alignment of product goals, OKRs, and backlog priorities across leadership, business, compliance, and delivery teamsContinuous product evolution informed by customer feedback, lifecycle stage, regulatory change, and business prioritiesIncreased product delivery maturity through mentoring and coaching of Product Owners and influencing best practices across the organizationKey Responsibilities:Product Ownership & DeliveryOwn and evolve key IKM functional areas, including:Clinical charting (Problems & Diagnoses)Charge Capture and Billing workflowsSchedulingContent ingestion into IKMMessage CenterMaintain and continuously groom a prioritized backlog that balances new capabilities, enhancements, technical debt, maintenance, and regulatory needsTranslate business, clinical, billing, regulatory, and nonâfunctional requirements into highâquality user stories with clear acceptance criteriaDefine release strategy, valueâbased slicing, and incremental delivery plans to maximize customer and business impactDrive estimation, sequencing, and scope tradeâoff discussions with engineering partnersStakeholder & CrossâFunctional LeadershipRepresent the voice of the customer in prioritization, sprint planning, reviews, and release discussionsProactively identify, manage, and communicate complex dependencies across product, engineering, quality, compliance, and operational teamsEngage Legal, Compliance, and Regulatory stakeholders to validate requirements and ensure auditâready deliveryCoordinate with PMO to align to and influence bestâpractice standards for the Product Owner roleQuality, Risk & Operational ExcellenceLead UAT strategy and execution, refining development and testing practices to reduce risk and defects prior to releaseOwn defect backlog and triage process for assigned product areas; partner with Support and Account teams to ensure transparency and resolutionIdentify, assess, and actively socialize delivery risks (in partnership with the Scrum Master)Support CAPAâlevel documentation and remediation activities as requiredCoaching & MentorshipMentor and coach Product Owners on backlog management, refinement practices, stakeholder engagement, and delivery executionServe as a role model for strong product discipline, customer empathy, and outcomeâdriven deliveryMinimum RequirementDegree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.Critical Skills7+ years of experience in Product Ownership, Product Management, or Agile delivery rolesProven track record leading complex, crossâfunctional product initiatives from concept through production releaseDemonstrated success operating in highly regulated environments (healthcare, clinical systems, billing, revenue cycle, or equivalent)Strong working knowledge of clinical workflows and billing concepts; experience with oncology, EHRs, or revenue cycle systems is a strong plusTechnical & Delivery SkillsHigh degree of technical fluency, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and architectsDeep understanding of Agile/Scrum practices, backlog management, and incremental deliveryExperience balancing feature delivery with technical debt, platform stability, and performance needsStrong documentation discipline with the ability to create clear, auditable artifactsLeadership & Way of WorkingOperates independently with sound judgment, thriving in ambiguity and complex decisionâmaking environmentsExceptional stakeholder management, communication, and influence skillsStrong customer empathy with the ability to frame problems, identify root causes, and deliver meaningful outcomesDemonstrated ability to mentor peers and raise overall delivery maturityWe are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson as part of our Total Rewards. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.
