Lead Bioinformatics Scientist
Our client, a cutting-edge research institution dedicated to advancing scientific understanding, is looking for a Lead Bioinformatics Scientist to spearhead innovative projects in Richmond, Virginia . This role is pivotal in leveraging computational approaches to analyze complex biological datasets, driving discoveries in genomics, proteomics, and other life science domains. You will lead a team of talented bioinformaticians and collaborate with cross-functional research groups. Responsibilities encompass designing and implementing computational pipelines for high-throughput sequencing data analysis (e.g., RNA-Seq, WGS, ChIP-Seq). You will develop and apply statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to identify patterns, biomarkers, and novel therapeutic targets. The Lead Bioinformatics Scientist will be responsible for data interpretation, visualization, and reporting, ensuring the robustness and reproducibility of findings. This includes managing large-scale datasets, optimizing computational workflows, and maintaining high standards of data integrity and security. You will play a crucial role in guiding research strategy by identifying emerging bioinformatics technologies and methodologies. Mentoring and developing junior scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment, and contributing to grant writing and manuscript preparation are also key aspects of this position. Strong experience in scripting languages like Python or R, familiarity with database management (SQL/NoSQL), and proficiency in utilizing cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) are essential. Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Singularity) is a plus. The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field, coupled with a minimum of 7 years of relevant post-doctoral or industry experience. Demonstrated leadership experience, with a proven track record of managing projects and mentoring teams, is required. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences, including researchers, clinicians, and external collaborators.
