What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Perform electronic and manual research of laws, legal opinions, policies, and regulations
- Draft or review legal documents including briefs, memos, rulings, and opinions
- Examine legal filings for sufficiency, jurisdiction, and proper form
- Prepare jury instructions for court proceedings
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by judicial officers
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Completion of law school or legal degree, law clerk apprenticeship, or law clerk program
- Knowledge of Iowa laws and rules, as well as the organization and functions of the Iowa Judicial Branch
- Ability to research and interpret state and federal law, case law, and court rules
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in legal research and writing
- Experience in a collaborative professional environment
- Familiarity with Iowa court procedures and legal systems
- High academic excellence
