Junior Backend Engineer

Baselayer is an intelligent business identity platform trusted by over 2,200 financial institutions. They are seeking a Junior Backend Engineer to build and maintain RESTful APIs, design backend services, and optimize performance for high-volume systems while ensuring security and compliance. Responsibilities API Development & Integration: Build and maintain RESTful APIs and integrate them with various data sources, ensuring scalability, high performance, and adaptability for autonomous agents in the GTM space Backend System Design: Architect and design core backend services that support KYC/KYB processes, leveraging knowledge graphs and LLMs for dynamic use cases Data Processing & Management: Develop and maintain robust data pipelines for identity data processing, focusing on scalability and performance when handling large-scale, high-performance data flows AI/ML Integration: Collaborate with AI/ML teams to integrate models, including reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) and fine-tuning (e.g., LoRA), to improve LLMs for specific use cases within the identity space Platform Infrastructure: Build the infrastructure to support future AI/ML hires and projects, creating a scalable platform foundation for continued innovation Security & Compliance: Ensure backend systems meet industry standards for security, privacy, and compliance, particularly around KYC/KYB regulations Performance Optimization: Implement optimizations for large-scale data management, ensuring backend services can efficiently process identity data while maintaining reliability Testing & Debugging: Write unit tests, debug issues, and monitor backend services for performance and reliability, while continuously improving backend architecture to handle diverse data and use cases Skills 1-3 years of experience in backend development, working with Python and building APIs Comfortable working with large-scale data and enjoy optimizing performance for high-volume systems Strong interest in AI/ML integration, particularly with LLMs, and eager to learn about new technologies Prioritize security and compliance in backend systems, especially in regulated environments like KYC/KYB Keen eye for detail and take pride in writing clean, maintainable code while optimizing for performance Thrive in a high-trust, ownership-focused environment and are comfortable working across different levels of abstraction Problem-solver who navigates the unknown confidently Proactive self-starter who thrives in dynamic settings Incredibly intelligent and clever.
