Intern - Medical Coding

Overview Quartz is seeking one intern to join our Medical Coding team from June to December 2026. This internship would be ideal for someone who is able to work part-time to gain hands-on exposure within the health insurance field while completing or after completing their Medical Coding Diploma/Degree. Hours and availability are flexible between 8:00AM and 5:00pm CST, Monday through Friday. Internship Benefits: • Competitive pay • Networking and team building opportunities • Weeklong intern retreat in Madison, WI • Personality and productivity assessment workshops (DiSC & Working Genius) • All interns are assigned a buddy • Mock interviews and resume workshop • Job shadow experience • Paid volunteering opportunity • Access to participate in Employee Resource Groups Responsibilities You will participate and learn important skills in real-world situations that can be applied to your career beyond the classroom to include, but not be limited to: • Skills: Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, application of coding concepts to submitted medical claims, problem-solving skills, communication • Health Insurance Industry Knowledge: products, regulations, competitors, recent news • Professional Skills: communication, time management, workplace etiquette • Learn professional application and develop fluency in the following tools: Microsoft Office - Excel, Outlook, Word, PPT • Key tasks may include coding logic denials, coding guideline review, coding policy creation and policy review, unlisted code review and coding software management Qualifications • Demonstrated interest in Medical Coding as a possible career path • Ability to work 20 hours a week from June to December 2026 • Seeking a student pursuing a Medical Coding or Health Information Technology Diploma or Degree program and Graduating between May 2026 and May 2027 • Completion of a CPT and ICD-10 Coding course by the start of internship • Must live within a 3-hour radius of Madison, WI and be willing to travel to headquarters from June to August Hardware and equipment will be provided by the company, but candidates must have access to high-speed, non-satellite Internet to successfully work from home.
