Indirect Tax Analyst

Messer Americas is the world’s largest privately held industrial gases company, and they are seeking an Indirect Tax Analyst to support U.S. indirect tax compliance activities. The role involves preparing tax filings, maintaining compliance documentation, and assisting with audits while also contributing to process improvements and system enhancements.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the accurate preparation and timely filing of business licenses, annual reports, personal property tax, and sales and use tax returns for multiple entities across various taxing jurisdictions with minimal supervisionMaintain supporting documentation, compliance calendars, and tracking for filing deadlines and deliverablesIdentify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in indirect tax complianceAnalyze data to identify indirect tax exemptions, credits, incentives, and overall indirect tax impacts related to capital projects and business initiativesPrepare tax incentive applications and manage associated ongoing compliance requirementsMonitor pending and enacted tax legislation to assess potential impacts and opportunitiesCommunicate with taxing authorities to resolve notices, inquiries, and discrepanciesAssist with customer and vendor exemption certificate managementIndependently manages own administrative tasks and provides support to the team as neededWork with Accounts Receivable teams to support customer inquiries related to indirect tax billingsProvides support for indirect tax audits, tax systems, and other departmental initiatives as needed including cross-functional collaborationSkillsProficiency with Microsoft 365, especially Excel skills including pivot tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and related functionsAbility to extract, organize, and analyze transactional and master data from SAP and tax systems (Vertex, PTMS) to support compliance workpapers and reconciliationsLeverages data analytics, automation, and emerging technologies (including AI) to improve indirect tax compliance efficiency, data accuracy, and system processesStrong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and quality orientationEffective time management and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a calendar-driven environmentClear written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate across functionsAbility to follow documented procedures and internal controls; continuous improvement mindsetBachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related fieldExposure to Vertex (O Series/Returns/Q Series), PTMS, or other indirect tax software and/or ERP softwarePrior internship/co-op experience in accounting, tax, AP/AR, shared services, or compliance rolesFamiliarity with exemption certificate processes and indirect tax documentation practicesAcademic coursework or demonstrated interest in taxation and/or accounting principlesAbility to work full-time in a professional hybrid environment and meet periodic peak workload deadlines (month/quarter/year-end and rendition seasons)0–2 years of relevant experience (indirect tax, accounting operations, audit, or similar)BenefitsMedicalDentalVisionShort term disabilityLife insurancePaid time offLong term disability401(k) PlanBonus programCompany OverviewMesser Americas is one of the industrial gas companies, offers expertise in industrial, medical, specialty, and electronic gases.
