Highly Migratory Species Conservation Coordinator

Wild Oceans, founded in 1973, is dedicated to conserve marine fish and preserve our ocean ecosystems. Wild Oceans prioritizes the conservation of ocean predators such as billfish, swordfish, tunas, and sharks, while maintaining healthy food webs and essential marine habitats.
Wild Oceans is seeking a part-time Highly Migratory Species Conservation Coordinator to lead our campaign to protect highly migratory species, specifically billfishes.
Role Description
This is a part-time contract position. The role involves developing and implementing a campaign to improve management of highly migratory species, specifically billfish, to reduce bycatch, improve stock status and protect spawning grounds. The Conservation Coordinator will:
• Monitor the activities of the fishery management councils, RFMOs and scientific and advisory bodies related to highly migratory species.
• Organize coalition of conservation organization and recreational fishermen advance campaign goals.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
• Engage with decision-makers, scientists and stakeholders and actively participate in key policy events to defend and advance Wild Oceans campaign goals.
• Represent Wild Oceans in meetings.
• Develop fact sheets, blogs, and other materials on Wild Oceans marine fish conservation priorities.
Qualifications
• Experience in marine conservation, fisheries management, or related fields
• Familiarity with US and international fisheries management as well as the decision-making process
• Excellent communication and public outreach skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and independently
